    C1 Gas Tank

There have been many treads about replacement gas tanks for the C1. It seems that some (all?) reproductions require "banging on edges" for them to fit properly. Has anyone had success with a particular brand that will fit without trying to modify it? Original labels are not important to me, just a quality, functional unit that will slip in like an original. Mine has a leak. Thanks. Richard

I bought a Quanta tank for my 57. They are made from the original tooling and have the AO Anderson logo. Now, it did require some 'bending' to make it fit. The seam edges have to be bent in order to fit in the cavity. I used a body type wide vice grips and just bent the seam up. Even then, it is a very tight fit, but it will go in.

The repro gas lines don't fit worth a hoot either. They have to be re-bent to fit in the clips and to clear the seam. But all that said and done, they are a good quality tank and I doubt if you will have any problems with it once it is installed and hooked up. I think they all have the vent port, and I don't know if they have baffles. -Dan-

the early 57's didn't have the vented feature whereas the later ones did. 57 vin 1093 was lacking a vent tube(vented thru gas cap) while vin 4450 had the vent tube in place(unvented gas cap). mike

Had the exact same issues when I did my 59 with a Quanta and after market lines.

Yea Mike, its just that when I bought there was only one tank listed, and it is vented. So for an early VIN, one would either add a vent system, or to keep it original, block off the vent port. Its not seen, so it doesn't really matter much. My car is #4122 and is vented, so it was just what I needed. -Dan-
