I have a couple of 2x4 intakes. One has a 3/8 pipe thread for the heater nipple and the other has a 1/2. Which is correct for a 1957.It was my understanding the 1957 was the smaller size. Is there any markings on the plug that is used for the heater delete cars.

Re: 2x4 intake manifold
Dan, The heater delete cars used a variety of plugs. All that I have seen are just a square plug with a variety of logos if any at all.
Tim Mikey once told me that most any fitting will do as he doesn't see the same one twice. Since heater deletes were rather rare on the assembl line GM used whatever they had laying around.
Don't know about the 2x4 setups so let me report on the 57 FI baseplates/intakes. I see some with the 3/8 pipe thread with the adapter and I see some with the larger thread and no adapter. I actually don't know what is correct so I mostly use the 3/8 pipe with adapter. It's getting harder to find really nice heater fittings today. Typical auto store ones are unslightly. (being kind). All the auto stores one I see are stamped China on them. So I debur them and have them plaed.
Although you did n't ask. I believe the correct fittings have a notch on each point of the hex. All the NOS ones I have seen and a lot of the junkers I see have that notch.
'63 heater hose fittings appear to be all by themselves (naturally). The hole is smaller for some reason. John- Top
