You never said if you checked voltage at coil with key turned to start, did you? As far as rough running;you paid someone to rebuild distributor but you're not really sure what he did to it.. Looks like it should be his heartburn to figure out what's wrong. Think you've aggravated yourself enough. Think we've about exhausted tips here, also.

      Re: 67 -327 hard starting

William, I did state in an earlier post in this thread that the voltage was 12.3 at both the R terminal and the + side of the coil with key turned to ON and when cranking, it fell to 5.6 volts at the R and + terminals while dropping down to around 2 volts at the - terminal of the coil when cranking. I'm sorry you may have overlooked this post #6, I think. Again, I thank everyone for their suggestions and input. I'll be home tomorrow and will begin to narrow it down and hopefully get it solved this weekend, even if it means replacing the units with points, or a solenoid, or ignition switch. Again, thanks to everyone. I'll post the final findings as soon as I have them, so maybe this will help someone else out in the future! I'm going to contact M & H asap.

Wait a minute, you are checking opposite ends of a relatively short single wire from the R terminal to the coil. A, the voltage at the R on the solenoid when cranking should be more than 5.6 volts, and B. the same voltage should be read at the coil end of a relatively short wire. In Either case the voltage in the system when cranking should be above 5.6 volts. What is the voltage at the battery terminals when cranking? I would think hard about checking the ground side of your battery cable connection if you have not done so.

Bill, I just have the ground cable pushed down onto the battery terminal by hand for a snug fit so I could quickly remove it if I had to. The other end of the ground cable is securely bolted to the bell housing/engine with 1 of the transmission bolts in the location shown in the AIM. No, I have not checked the voltage at the battery terminals when cranking, but will do so tomorrow afternoon late and let you know. I will also install the gnd cable all the way down onto the battery post, since I don't seem to have to worry about any shorts in the wiring now (believe any would have shown up by now). The positive cable is fully installed down onto the post, though.

Fix the ground and there is a high probability your problem will be fixed. I've been scratching my head for three days now trying to figure out why your voltages are so low when you crank, now I think I know....

PROBLEM SOLVED, I think!!! Bill I checked all grounds and fully installed the battery cable ground to the battery post--still got the same result. Next, I removed the ignition switch, and cleaned all external & internal contacts and re-installed, as has been previously suggested--same result. Replaced coil--same result. Pulled starter and removed the solenoid and replaced it with one I had from a 66 vette (had to thoroughly clean and sand contacts). What do you know??? It now cranks at the touch of the key, but only reads 10.2 volts at the coil when cranking, hopefully another new one will get me to 12 Volts. I will contact the starter rebuilder tomorrow about replacing the solenoid for me. Hopefully, this will go well. Still have to do all final adjustments and fine tuning and see if my original coil is OK or if I have to find another. To All Who Responded With Their Advice and Suggestions and stuck it out with me on this, I am TRULY GREATFUL. Without members like you, where would this hobby be? Again, THANKS Al
