Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
Mike,
You should not be able to hear that bearing. We just finished removing a new LUK bearing and replacing it with a NAPA bearing. For the record, this is the first time I have had trouble with a LUK product and I have used plenty of them. Back to the garage! Bill- Top

Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
Bill, I didn't like the looks of the bearing (INA) that came in the LuK kit - it had a plastic body. So, I bought the best Napa had available, the SKF, made in the USA. The SKF felt tight and smooth when rotating it prior to installation. Again, it's not loud but I can hear it and don't think I should. The first pic is the SKF bearing I installed, the second is the INA (plastic) bearing that came in the kit.- Top

Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
I've installed several LUK kits and used the composite bearing that came with it. I've never had a problem with any of them. IMHO, it's a superior design to the all metal bearing.- Top

Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
LUK has been around a long time. If they didn't want you to use their bearing they would not supply one. Sometimes what looks better just isn't. Did you call LUK first and ask them about their bearing choice? Companies that have been around a long time don't usually put inferior products in their kits, if they did they wouldn't be around a long time! Just my two cents............................................. . Terry- Top

Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
Mike, When you depress the clutch, Are you fully depressing the pedal? sometimes a front input transmisson bearing will make a bearing noise when slightly depressing the pedal. If this is whats happening you may suspect a the front bearing or possible the rollers bearing where the input and output shafts meet.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Question about throw-out bearing noise?
What was the condition of the throw out bearing sleeve on the front of the transmission? How about the clutch fork? Was it installed properly with tension spring in the groove of the bearing and not over the lip of the bearing? I'm sure you know all these things and I'm not trying to talk down to you, but I haven't put in a clutch in over 50 years and don't even recall what they called these items noted above - only the concepts.
