    C1 Cowl Support Brackets

What is the correct attachment for the metal brackets that the front cowl support rods bolt onto - rivet, screw, . . .?

This bracket is riveted(?) to the lip at the hood opening. The wiring termination block clips are also
attached to one of the rivets or whatever. How does an original installation appear, i.e., are the fasteners
    exposed or covered?

The nose had to be replaced on my 1960 during restoration and I followed how the old attachments were made which were just like shown in the AIM. In the 1960 AIM the details are show in Section B sheet 2.00. The wiring is detailed in Section 12 sheet 2.00. On the 60, some of the wiring clips under the lip are attached with cement.

      Donald -

What did you use to attach the brackets - pop rivets?

No, I used the correct counter sunk aluminum body rivets

Thanks Donald, that is what I needed. I have the parts and see the assembly in the AIM but was not certain
how the main bracket was secured. We have several '62's in town but none are around when I want to check them out.

I bought an inexpensive air hammer kit from Harbor Freight (picture attached). I replaced 60%-70% of the rivets on my 1960 during restoration. Things like the underbody brackets for the seat belts, seat track mount brackets, fuel tank strap brackets, etc.

The hammer kit has drive heads to fit the different size and shaped rivet heads. For the countersunk head rivets I used the flat hammer attachment on the head and used a heavy chisel head for the other end to buck/crush the rivet. Since the rivets are aluminum minimum air pressure is need. I set my compressor air pressure at 18 - 20 lbs. If your nose fiberglass is the normal thickness, there should be no problem using the rivets.
