    69 Key Set Judging...

What would be the correct orientation for the "E" and "H" stamping? Should the keys be stamped with the code letters parallel along the
key shaft or perpendicular to the key shaft?

Also for judging will I need two sets or will one set give me full points?

    Thanks

    Re: 69 Key Set Judging...

The options I have seen are perpendicular to the key shaft or at a 45* angle to the key shaft. You must have something different than the rest of us. Pete will sell you what will pass judging. You can trust him.

And the folks at Briggs & Stratton (back when they were still Briggs and Straton) told me that the orientations I described indicated two different suppliers, and that either could have come with OEM key/lock sets. My personal experience when I was Team Leader and got to look as such things is that for 1970-72 the letter was perpendicular to the key shaft for every key that I was sure was original. And now you know why the 1968-69 TIM&JG does not address the orientation of the letter.

The current 1970-72 TIM&JG does, but I am not is a position to tell you if that will survive the next revision. Of course you don't care about the 1970-72 manual anyway. I just throw that out there for historical purposes.

Thanks Terry but Pete isn't quite sure on the orientation/placement of the "E" & "H" for 1969 so that is why I asked. Maybe it doesn't matter seeing as it was a "transition year" for the new key type?

Would someone be able to post a pic of an original 69 key for an example?

Also, for judging will one set be enough or will I need two sets?

        Greg,

If two sets came with the car, then two sets are needed during judging. So, yes, to answer your question.

The JG spells out two sets of keys and knockouts and two alarm keys if the car is so equipped must be shown.
