    flight judging

I recently participated in a NCRS chapter flight judging session, my car was 1 1/2 points short of a top flight award (92.5).

My question is - if I make the few corrections (cig lighter, trip odemeter, seat belts) in order to gain the additional 1 1/2 points, will I have to participate in a new all up flight judging? or will the few correction I make to satify the 94 point top flight requirement suffice without a completly new full car judging?

Each time you are judged the ENTIRE car is judged. And, just fixing those three items will probably NOT garner you enough points to get to Top Flight. Assume cig lighter was failure on OPS, and perhaps the trip odometer - what other items did you fail in OPS? Where else did you lose points?

Technically it was 1.5%, not points, away from Top Flight.

This means you need about 68 points to move your car up to Top Flight. And, as Rick noted, every event is a new day with a full, complete judging. As a result each new group of judges may find a few things the previous one did not, and may miss a few things the first group noted.

Operations is usually the easiest way to gain a large amount of points in a few line items so you are correct that it's an easy place to start your work. You should plan on giving yourself a good cushion of points, though, if you really want that Top Flight award.

Agreed. In fact, if you have different judges (and sometimes even if you don't) don't be surprised if you lose points for things you did not lose points for before. Trying to continually stay ahead of the inevitable point loses will give you more of a buffer against unexpected deducts. Good luck

Edit: Yeah, what Patrick H. said first - and better.

Ken, Read through your judging sheets thoroughly. If you can't read what the judges wrote or don't understand what they mean by their deduct - ask someone to help you figure it out. Then, make sure ALL YOUR OPS are bulletproof. They are 25 points each and can costs you HUGE point deductions. Then I would go through your judging sheets and highlight the "fixes" that are the most cost effective and quickest to do. Each of us, when we are judging or when we are getting our own cars judged, always want to try to strive for the 100% knowing none of us will ever attain it. The better you prep your car, the better you will score. The more you understand about the car, the better you will be able to prep it. Have fun, enjoy the education - it's wonderful. We ALL learn something new at each and every meet we go to. Good luck and have fun....ARA

Absolutely spot on. I could not have said it better myself. Nice post Ara.
