SYS message on 1993 Instrument Panwl

After changing the battery on my 1993 LT-1 coupe, my instrument panel occasionally flashes the message "SYS". The manual is quite vague regarding this message saying that it should be taken to the dealer to determine what system is having the problem. I encountered no problems on the ride other than the occasional message on the panel. Can anyone provide some insight as to where I should start checking? Maybe something should have been reset after the loss of power from the battery change?

Joe, the few times I've seen this on my 96 it coincided with my battery slowly going bad. However, unlike you each time I installed a new battery the message would go away. Agree the manual is vague as to the exact cause of the problem, and my dealer had no ideas as well.

The SYS light is activated when there's a problem in the CCM (not the ECM). It will flash 3 times every 15 seconds. If it's an intermittent thing, it could easily be something with the voltages the CCM is seeing as Pat said. have you pulled the codes? The CCM codes are in module one. And how many miles are on the alternator? The 92-93's seem to have to have the alternators replaced more than other years. Also, you can check the grounds, there's quite a few and they can get corroded , I cleaned and greased all the grounds on my 92.

The central control module will light the SYS. indicator when there is a a trouble code in one of the other computer systems.You'll need to understand the code numbers and how to get them. Bills web site may give you the info you need. Generally a experienced tech is a way to go.
