    66 A/C extension ring

I have a 66 327 w A/C . The fan shroud is original and has the extension ring notches in the bottom ,and the cut outs on the side along with the bolt holes and u-nuts . However it was never installed with the extension ring . The notches have never been cut out !!

So while reading many "extension ring " posts, I came across the fact that the repo extension rings suck.

    My question are thus :

Have any of you seen many 66 A/C cars without the ring ? Do you own one ? Did the judges agree ?

If not , where can I get a decent repo , Doc Rebuild has none . How hard will it be to install given the fact that I have all the cut outs etc. even with the repos have bad fitment issues?

    Thanks ,

    Jim

i think i got one from sermersheimer years ago and had no fitment problems attaching it to an original 67 400 ac fan shroud. i'd remove the shroud and do the fitment on the workbench, then re-install them separately. mike

I can tell you that the shroud extension/ring did once exist. It was GM #3887424 and it was available in SERVICE until April, 1973 when it was discontinued without supercession. 1973 is 40 years ago so finding an NOS piece is going to be difficult, to say the least.

By the way, the 427 fan shroud extension/ring was GM #3887428. It was discontinued from SERVICE without supercession in June, 1977.

          Thanks Mike

If I order one I will call Shimershines.

          Thanks Joe ,

I knew they did in fact exist , but every archived thread I read on them was by a 67 owner. And as I said , on mine The notches have never been cut out , nor are there any staples holes in the bottom !

So now I am wondering if I am Alone and Unique in this situation , or if it is similar to the " 7 Blade Fan " once called out for in the JG for 66's with A/C , but now known not to have been used in 66 .

I am hoping that some other 66 owners will step up to tell me if they had a similar situation, ie , either never used in 66 , or they ran out for a time , or if mine was just a fluke and put together during the head guy's break time ??

The part number is a number that would have existed during the 1966 model year. It's possible that it was not released as of the very beginning of the model year but, if so, it would have been released very shortly after the beginning of the model year. As far as whether they were actually installed on all 1966's with C-60 I cannot say. However, I would opine that based upon what you described, one was never installed on your car.

My 66 327/300 with C60 with a 12/27/65 build date did not have an extension or the slots cut out either. Might have been later on in the year before it actually made it on the cars. Alex

                Thank you sir ,

The first of the 66 owners to chime in !

Does your shroud also have the side cut outs and the u nuts installed and bolt holes ?

As for your theory of making it in later , I still can't say for sure , however my car is a late April build date .

So now there are two of us !

Any other 66 A/C guys out there ? Team Leaders, Judges. ? Any input would be greatly appreciated !

                Jim

                    Jim,

My 66 A/C coupe w/ what I believe to be original shroud, has the extention and was built in early April 66.
Based on this, your situation is more likely an assembly anomoly.

                      Thanks Dave,

That makes more sense if you were not going to put the ring on anyway .

Interesting the ring was different given the application, any one have pictures of their 66 327 part?

                          Frank,

Thanks for responding . We are less then a month apart . so you indeed could be right . Yours is a 327 correct ?

I am still hoping to get a little bit more than a 3 car result .
