    stuck horn fixed !

In previous thread I asked for help on horn stuck on in my '62. After reading members' suggestions and talking to a long time Corvette guy friend I first diagnosed with a test light. Since high probability of grounding inside column, disconnected tan 20 gage wire that runs from steering column bearing to horn relay at its connection under dash outside where it enters column, connected one lead of test lamp to part of wire running into column and other end of test light lead to a hot fuse with ignition in "on" position. Test light lighted proving ground/"short" inside column. Removed wheel and pulled bearing up. Wire and its solder connection to back side of bearing fine but paint/insulation on front of brass bearing housing where it sits against steering column had worn away creating a ground even without pressing horn button. Applied liquid electric tape to back side of brass on front of bearing, put it back in and ran another bead around rim of where brass front part of bearing might contact metal of steering column. Put it all back together. Problem solved. Horn blows only when I press horn button.Hope this will help others if they have a similar problem.

hope you thought to take photos of the step by step procedure and then pen a short article that I could publish in an upcoming issue of The Corvette Restorer so all 15,500+ members can benefit and not just the 2% or 3% that sign on to the discussion board.

I appreciate your wanting me to do an article in the Restorer, but no, I didn't take any photos since I was mainly trying to get problem diagnosed and corrected and didn't know if I was successful until I got it all bolted back up. Maybe could use some illustrations from vendors' catalogs or AIM that show various parts involved. Can't believe that only 2-3% of members read these online forums.
