Can members see your VIN number historic document services

When you purchase the historic document service and send your vin number in is it kept private where the general members cannot see it.

If you list your Corvette in any of the registries you provide the VIN , so why do people want to keep it a secret?
If you have a legitimate car nobody is going to steal your VIN.

Chester, for what it is worth the document service is recorded by VIN not owner, so searching an owner would not provide the VIN, even if you could search the system that way and you can't search it at all. However anyone could order the service for any VIN we do not validate ownership of the VIN there simply is no reason too. A lot of people order this service when looking to purchase just as a confirmation of existing records.
Yes NCRS records the fact we produced the document for each of the services, we keep a copy of the document, in case there is any dispute over its production in the future.

I'd like to second Bruce's comment. I, too, see no reason to keep our VINs secret and I don't try to keep mine secret. In fact, if we were all a little less secretive about our VINs we might be able to do better group research into the history of our cars.

Never understood the paranoia about hiding/keeping VINs a "secret"; every car built since 1968 has the full official/legal VIN displayed in the windshield. It's not like someone can steal your car because they know your VIN.

The same applies to those that black out their license plates when posting a pic. of their car. Is that how they drive around in public where hundreds/thousands can see the car? I suggest those suffering from this paranoia either start a regiment of Valium or move to Wa. or Co. and partake of the recently legalized herb. In other words, MELLOW OUT.

                    I agree. I don't understand it either.

Yes, and I can remember a couple of members here that used to go through parking lots collecting '68-'72 VINs. You would be surprised to know how many cars have pickup truck and passenger car VIN tags.

Actually, they can. When cars used keys to open them, the key code was stored in the VIN #. An unscrupulous locksmith could call GM and be given the key cut code to make a key. But I'm sure it never happened.

I don't see any reason to keep the VINs a secret. My '57 VIN is E57S10XXXX . (I have posted it here before and it is in the '56-'57 research.)

GM only has the key codes for the last 10 years or so, so only us C6 & C5 owners have to worry about that. And since my C6, and I believe all others doesn't have a key -- what's to worry. (Yes, I have seen the video of someone who got into a key-less entry car with an electronic device that had nothing to do with the VIN. That is why I have insurance.) BTW: It is a mistake to say the code is in the VIN. Nothing in the VIN itself will give you the key code.

I tried an auction once. That was a FAIL.
