Can a faulty coil make an engine run poorly? I was under the impression that it either it works or it doesnt. Thanks for the input!

Re: 54 coil performane
This is a fresh rebuild of everything. Just readjusted the valves and they are ok. All the usual stuff is new, plugs, cap points etc. with the ball on the pointer the rotor points to # one with the points open. Have 3.8 psi to the carbs. Engine stumbling around. I have the chasis rigged to run. The fuel bowls are full to within 1/8 inch of the divide inside. Fresh head gasket, no leaks. Compression is around 100, one is 90. Had the head rechecked for valve leakage, all ok. I cant believe its timing with the way its set up. New condfensor. The only thing I havnt replaced is the coil which is why Im asking the question. Maybe its running so rich its choking itself. The plugs are carbonned up pretty good. Im wondering if that can make it run so poorly. This thing should be purring. The carbs are freshly rebuilt. Whats left?? close to body drop and I would rather not work around the body. This has less than 2 hours running time on it. Im stumped- Top

Have you actually checked the timing with a light when someone is cranking the car?Bill Clupper #618- Top
