    1967 Dash Battery Gauge Quirky

The Battery gauge on my 1967, 327/350 has started acting strange. At idle the needle is dead center. When I drive, the needle is at least at the first mark (1/2 way to the 40+ mark), and if I really rev the motor it can go all the way to 40+. When I come back to idle at stop, the neddle goes back to the center. It seems that the battery might be getting too much charge, although I haven't yet seen any side affects. Ideas? Thanks,

    Richard -

Use your multimeter across the battery terminals - engine off, a fully-charged battery will show around 12.6 volts, and with the engine running, it should show 13.8-14.5 volts. If the latter isn't happening, the system isn't charging, and if you see more than 14.5 volts, it's over-charging.

      Richard,
Check the ground wires to horn relay and voltage regulator- I had the same problem with the battery overcharging. The ground wire to the voltage regulator was burned inside the harness. Replaced wire and no further issues. Good luck
