    Ballpark value on a 1966

A co-worker phoned me today with a lead on a one owner 1966 convertible with a 427. The car is disassembled completely for restoration by the owner and has been sitting due to his health issues. Supposedly the car is complete. I haven't looked at it yet but wondered what a ball park price would be for a car in this condition. I know that there are a lot of variables but just looking for a general idea.

    Thanks,

    Glen

    Glen,

There really isn't enough information to go on for a "ballpark" number. If it were me, I would look at the options, color, and condition of the primary components (engine, frame, body, transmission, and rear) first. If all of that checks out, then I would determine the current market price for such a car (that is done - restored). Next determine what it would cost you (time and money) to get the car to that point and then subtract the two numbers. That's how much it would be worth to me.

Glen, this could be the proverbial can of worms. I have inspected two"box" cars recently. One was in such a disarray that my comment was"run Forest, run, faster that you have ever run in your life" Biggest mess I have ever seen. The other was mostly there, I think. It is very hard to figure punt if every thing is there. Ball park would be from $5k to $20k depending on options, condition, if drivetrain is original. What you really need to do is figure the cost of finishing the car, add at least 10% contingency, for missed items, them subtract that and the purchase price from potential sale price when completed. I suspect that you will find that you can buy a completed car cheaper.

Agree with Dick, most these basket case cars sellers want list price and you can just get a complete done car for less.
