Wrong attitude.......... The standard is high and should be. If one cannot make the cut then lowering the requirement so everybody with what ever battery, paint job, tires, and what ever can get a 97 plus score is just not what the mark of excellence award is about. And neither is top flight, but it does allow for up to 6% wrong with ones car. Not everyone can be first at the finish line. There is no shame in second flight. NCRS members need to be putting the big boy pants on and stop crying they can't get the required score for an award. Take the points deductions as warranted and stop complaining.

There was a great article in the Restorer a while back about hollowing out an original battery case and installing a new smaller battery inside.

Ron, my offer from Frisco still stands. I'd be happy to be another source of help for you as you pursue the Performance Verification award. Email me if you'd like, and we can connect.

John has the right approach if you just have to get some or all of those 7 points. buy an original used no good battery and see the article in the restorer that came out within the last year or so. hope that helps but i agree with the high standard. there are many ways to skin a cat - not all are expensive if you have the patience.
