    Early Muncie Shift Levers

Are early Muncie shift levers the same regardless of the vehicle that the transmission was used in? To be more specific, I'm trying to find an original 3-4 shift lever, P/N 3859943 for my brother's 67 Camaro and I'm wondering if Corvettes in those years used the same P/N shift levers? I'm heading to Carlisle next weekend and it would make his day if could bring one back for him.

Greg, unlike the Corvette lever the shift lever in the Camaro was a curved, flat stock piece that is very close in shape to a Hurst Competition Plus. As you know the Corvette is a shorter lever with reverse lock out. Rick's Camaro and Classic Industries are a few that the Camaro unit.

    Good Luck!

Hi Steve, I'm actually talking about the shift levers that are on the transmission. His 1-2 and reverse levers are correct but the 3-4 lever is wrong. I think I found my answer late last night and the Corvette ones appear to be different.

GM #3859943 was used on many Camaros, Chevy II's, Chevelles, and some full size passenger cars. It was also used on some Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile models (probably A bodies). However, it was never used on a Corvette.

Thanks Joe, that confirms it then. I was hoping that I might get lucky at Carlisle but probably not. Would you happen to know of a source for this lever other than ebay because near as I can tell they aren't reproduced.

Greg, try Rick's and Classic for the rods. Good Luck, Steve

              Greg,

There is a set of NOS levers currently on Ebay (not mine).

No, they are GM # 3859942, 3859943, and 3857412. The seller has listed the applications but I have not verified what he has listed with all of my vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs.

Thinking here the Corvette 1-2 & 3-4 levers are much longer.
Can't find the numbers at this writing.

                      Re: Early Muncie Shift Levers

                      The 65-67 shifter levers are 3864402 (1-2), 3864403 (3-4), and 3846891 (R).
                      The 64 shifter levers are 3846889 (1-2), 3846890 (3-4), 3846891 (R).

3846890 to 3850113 in Mar. 1964 as per Chev. parts history (over the counter parts).

                          Ray,

There are shop drawings of the 3864402 and 3864403 levers in Noland Adams 63-67 Corvette restoration book on page 292. Each lever measures 3.79" from the center of the top hole to the center of the slot. Somewhere in my garage I have a 3846891 reverse lever.

                            Ray,

Pictured below are the original shifter levers from my 1966 Corvette. The overall length of the "1-2" (3864402) and "3-4" 3864403) lever measures about 4 11/16" and the overall length of the "R" (3836891) lever measures about 2 5/16". There is a stamped "X" on the backside of the "1-2" and "3-4" levers.

The 1964 levers, GM # 3846899 and 3846890, do not have the hole at the midpoint. This hole was added on 1965-1967 levers for a "faster shift" adjustment.
