Hello - in regards to an engine with a build date of Sept.21 and 215 heads with dates of H 2 7 and I 19 7, does this seem correct? The one head has only 2 days from being cast and then installed on the engine. Possible/correct??? Thanks in advance.

That's closer than "typical", but not impossible - the Tonawanda Foundry was only about 100 yards from the Engine plant.- Top

I had a 1961 engine that the cast date for the block.intake manifold and one head were one day before assembly. One head was cast on the day of production .I took the engine apart . It was standard bore and I did not think it had ever been opened up.- Top

Back in the day.. A lot of high volume inventory was effectively "last in first out" especially for heavy parts that were trucked from Casting plant to engine plant, generally a short hop.Bill Clupper #618- Top
