    1958-60 Eaton cap part number

Does anyone have an Eaton gas cap catalog and can advise the Eaton part number for the 1958L-1960 gas cap?
From my research it doesn't appear the Eaton cap 3764641 was ever available from GM in service...

Re: 1958-60 Eaton cap part number

    Ian,

I don't have an Eaton gas cap catalog but I know someone who has a NOS Eaton gas cap that looks (as best as I can remember) identical to the 3764641 gas cap as shown in Noland Adam's 53-62 Corvette restoration book on page 239. I will post a photo of the cap along with a description and dimensions in the very near future.

I have a 1975 Stant catalog which lists Stant gas cap # G-40A as replacement cap for 53-62 Corvettes. There also is a drawing of a G-40A cap with the following dimensions: O.D. = 2 17/32", Inner ring dia. = 1 1/2", Height = 1 3/8". This G-40A replacement cap was also used on other Chevrolet models as well as Ford, Mercury, and Pontiac models. I suspect the 58-60 Eaton gas cap was used on various models as well.

Thanks for the info! I think the G-40 is the vented cap correct for 61-62. I think the G-38 is the non-vented Stant for 58-60. For Eaton, I saw an EG-38 which was vented, so for 61-62. I'm trying to figure out what the Eaton number would be for the non-vented cap. I just like the Eaton

No, they use a non-vented cap.

Currently there is a NOS 3764641 VENTED gas cap on Ebay (not mine). The word "VENTED" is stamped on the cap twice as well as the Eaton logo.

I am still waiting for the photo of the Eaton cap as mentioned previously.

Enclosed are photos of another VENTED Eaton gas cap currently owned by my brother. The word "VENTED" is stamped twice with "Eaton" stamped in a 1/4" dia. circle. The cap measures 2 1/2" O.D. with the inner ring measuring 1 1/2" in dia. The cap is NOS but without a box. Note that the Eaton logo on this cap is stamped at a different location then the cap currently on Ebay.

Re: 1958-60 Eaton cap part number

Yesterday at a swap meet in Stafford Springs, CT, I found the gas cap pictured below. It looks loke GM # 3751027 as pictured in Noland Adam's 53-63 restoration book Vol. 1 except that it has the word "VENTED" stamped on it. The letters "F" and "E" must represent the manufacturer, Fuller-Emerson. I do not believe that this vented cap was an assembly line cap.

Dave, Unfortunately that is not a Corvette gas cap. May be appropriate for a passenger car application in the late 50's or early 60's.

The only model years that used a vented gas cap were 1953 to early 1957. During 1957 production GM vented the gas tank. As such, there was no longer a need for a vented cap.

                          Dave,

Because the cap is vented I did not think that it was correct for a Corvette but it only cost me $1. As you stated I also believe that the cap is from the late 50's or early 60's. It might be a service cap but it also might be an assembly line cap.

My 57 Corvette #809 (November 1956) came with a vented Eaton gas cap and no tank vent.
Later in the production year the tank vent was added and a non vented cap was used.
