Bought a butchered '58 with many wrong parts and fixes. Tach reads twice the revs as determined on a dynamo. It's generator drive. Face shows red line between 5,000 and 5,250 and maxes out at 6,000. Owners manual shows picture of tach gauge face with 7,000 revs max. Need to know the correct tach or how to reduce the reading. It's a 245. Thanks

Re: '58 Tachometer
Douglas, your red line is correct for a hydraulic lifter, 2X4, 245 horse engine. The mechanical lifter engines use the higher rpm tach. Not certain about the specifics of your dynamo. Corvette Specialities of Maryland West has the parts for your tach or they will restore at a reasonable price. They have done two wiper motors for me and I have been very pleased with the work and price.
