I'm in the process of doing my '58 tank. I'm installing a tank from Corvette Central. It's good - but not perfect. There are at least a half dozen minor things that are off. It's still a quality product though. Here's a picture of the corners that you have to bend.

Thanks a bunch Richard, great pics, Still wondering if vented and baffeled vs. non-vented, non-baffeled is the way to go. This car didnt have a vented one. Would seem a non-baffeled tank would slosh around affecting the gas gauge.

The '58 tanks were non-bafffled. GM changed at some point after 1958 but everything else remained the same. I got the baffled because it was readily available. While the tank is very very good there is no way it can ever be confused with the original. So baffling was really a moot point. Hey, it's not the original part. Nonetheless if anyone buys this car down the road they get the original nasty tank along with the car. Always save every little thing on these cars.

My '57 #887 had a baffled, non-vented tank. Replaced it with a baffled, vented Quanta tank and routed the vent hose to a location not visible from the outside but where overflow would drain out easily. Theory was if the factory thought it was better, who was I to question it? Asphaltic paper anti-squeak pads (see John's post #8) go on the solid surfaces (no holes) in line with the straps between the tank and the floor of the tank well.

Guy.....the original wasnt vented...the original wasnt baffled....I have heard owners can smell fuel when they are vented

Thanks folks, I think we have done a great anal examination of this subject. Now I know exactly what needs to be done. Ill use the non-vented, non baffeled unit. For what it would cost to make repairs to my tank I could buy a new one. Even with repairs I still have a tank thats 60 years old! Ill for sure keep the old tank. I think this post will help clear up this subject matter for many in my stage of restoration. Thanks again!!
