    '65 radiator date stamp oddity

I saw a pretty original '65 365 hp car today. The radiator appears original as the original clamp marks are still clear on the top, but I don't remember seeing the date code applied in the manner shown in the photo. Has anyone seen a late '65 radiator date code applied in this manner?

    Thanks.

    The tags are common.

Back in the 70's and 80's these radiators were the norm on judging fields. For whatever reason Harrison held over radiators in one year (probably repaired them) and then later put them in circulation after welding a tag on them representing the correct date. Most of the weld on tags were just spot welded on both ends.
Not very many of those radiators are still in Corvettes today. I have an NOS one in stock (not for sale) with a weld on tag. Bought it from DeWitts many years ago.

Tony I have two originals both rotten They both have normal stamped dates one is 65c out of #16120 the other was buried two deep to read , but is out of #17346 . Both have welded plates like your date plate but longer . The 65c is stamped 3007436 . The second one I couldnt read . Both are curved necks and have a white ink stamp square with a CG inside .

It is hard to tell. I believe they were welded and that one looks soldered, but I cant say some were not soldered.

              Tony,

Yes, these radiators were in Corvettes and not replacement radiators.
Like I said probably held over from previous years. All the dates under those welded plates are earlier than the welded plate itself.

They were all heli arced unless some crafty restorer made a plate and epoxied it on, not that I know anyone that would do that.
