I am going to replace my clutch in my 1966 427 as it chatters (also turn flywheel, new pilot and throwout bearing too). I am considering either a Sachs or a Valeo 11" clutch assembly. Has anyone had any experience with either unit? Any other thoughts?

Most folks I know install the LUK Rep Set. We can provide part numbers if needed.....or check the archives. Others report excellent results with CenterForce II.

Sachs makes a heavy duty clutch for this app that, although expensive, will out perform anything out there. The part # is K552-03HD & I would buy a new flywheel. As much work as you're doing, I would only want to do it once.- Top

Ken-----
The problem is that "heavy duty" clutches often come with heavy-duty pedal effort. That is usually a negative unless one uses the car for the kind of driving for which that kind of clutch is beneficial. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 66 427-425hp Clutch Info.......
I just pulled the Sachs clutch out of my 1985 CJ7 Jeep, nope not a Corvette. The rivits that hold the springs on the disc pulled through the backing. I guess that 258 6 cylinder was too much for it. Anyone seen anything like this before?
The best clutch ever made for this application was made by GM. It was the L88/ZL1 10.5 diaphram clutch.- Top

Joe, obviously you haven't driven a MY Corvette with this clutch. I have and am very happy with the pedal effort, about the same as a normal clutch, and especially the lack of slippage with a 427. If you speak with a Sachs tech rep, then you can find out his suggestion for the type of clutch you need for your application, and they have a warranty.- Top
