    Very Special LS6?

Am I correct in that there was a total of 188 1971 LS6 Corvettes? Were any built to anyones knowledge with a M21 trans instead of a M22? I have never seen machine marks on any original engine like this one. I really wanted to know more about this car, but I guess I did not sound serious enough. I was told they turned down 165K at a recent Russo and Steele auction. Warren I am sure you have some expertise here.

Yes, that pad looks a bit suspicious alright. Here is one that is better documented and judged (NCRS) and cheaper, but alas it does have the more mundane M22.....http://www.fraserdante.com/4280%20-%...1%20Vette.html

I usually don't comment on these kinds of threads, and I probably shouldn't here -- but I can not resist noting that this car has been "certified by NCRS." There are not too many of those. Probably less than 188.

Right Terry, and the "certified" part of it consists of the Shipping Data Report, the only NCRS document they have.

The White Convertable in Englewood NJ boosts a Leather Interior in perfect condition. It does not have the proper Door Panels for a Leather Interior. What's up with that???

It does not have leather interior. The seat inserts are Comfortweave. Comfortweave seats = vinyl interior.

Les, both you and the seller mis-spoke; the tank sticker plainly reads black vinyl interior, so I've no doubt that's how it's outfitted.

I'm no expert, but why do I think that the alarm switch didn't move to the fender until 1974?

You are correct about the alarm switch. I was going to comment on that and the interior but that has been done. Note the trim tag calls for 400 which is black vinyl.

Yes, the alarm switch is in the wrong location for a 1971. Yet, the UA-6 alarm is shown on the build sheet. Very curious indeed.

                          Rob,
That write-up is somewhat hogwash. I do have some interesting information about this car. When I viewed the car awhile ago it was missing the CEC solenoid & wiring harness, vacuum advance steel line, hoses to carburetor & cannister. There are over 100 examples of LS6's in the survey, there are several examples built with M21 transmissions. There's definitely alot more convertibles than what they state. After 27 years of studying these cars I've got one for them to boast about. A white/red coupe, at the present time it may still be a 1 of 1 in this color combination configuration.

Thanks to all. I have now learned some things I did not know. The engine pad though is something I have never seen before with those machine marks. The zone I believe is 00 not 0.

Those oblique curved lines are typical of the rotary mills used at engine shops when 'decking' a block.
