    Crossfire Injection System

    I seem to recall a recent article which I believe was in a "Restorer" about service to a 82/84 Crossfire Injection system. Can someone point me in the right direction whether it was in a Restorer, or perhaps another Corvette publication (Heaven forbid!).

    My son has a beautiful 82 Collector's Edition coming into his inventory in a few days and I want to have some data on hand in case he experiences any problems with this induction system. My experience is limited to Cavaliers, Ha!

    I'm also going to be looking into info on the dredded triple Holley system in the near future as he also has a 69 L-89 in the pipeline (God never intended a carburetor be built with a gasket surface below the gas level in a float chamber).

    Thanks;

    Just multiply the Cavalier experience by two and you should be ok. Usually they either work or they don't.

      Thanks Bill. I was hoping I could find the article. I'll keep looking. This is "to educate" my son about the system, and to fill in the blanks that my old age has wrought on me.

        Re: Crossfire Injection System

        Stu, I owned a May 83 Corvette for many years until my ex stole the car. The cross-fire injection worked perfect. That car would scream in spite of the bad rap the set up always got.
        Look around for an air cleaner element or two. Car Quest, etc has a rebuild kit for the set up. Keep the fuel system clean and don't let the car set long with ethanol.
        Should be fine. Biggest problem is exaxtly what you mentioned Stu. Few are educated enough to know what makes the system tick.
        I saw ana rticle or two also. Don't remember if it was Corvette Enthusiasts or our "Restorer". John

              Was Rube Goldberg the inventor? Ha! Thanks for the replys fellows. At least now I know what mags to look at to find the article (probably written by John Hinkley as his fine articles show up in a number of publications).

              J.D., Sorry I missed you up at Carlisle this year. With the light rain on Friday I kind of hung out under cover. Then on Saturday, I walked my butt off up and down the isles as I was too cheap to get another program to replace the one I left in the car in order to find your spot. The most money I spent was for port-of-potty tips.

              The 82 I am referencing here for the Crossfire system is the car my son bought at the show. He wanted to buy a couple others including a nice 61, but I talked him out of them long enough until they sold. The 82 is due in today and he is also taking delivery on an 69 L-89 and a 62 Fuelie that was supposedly once owned by an NCRS President (I haven't seen the paper work yet). Looks like I'll have to search my feeble memory banks to help him out with those two as well. I heard the 62 run, and it started very well, but may still need some tweaking (or is it twerting?).

                What few of them that came through the shop either ran perfectly or ran like crap when cold. There was a TSB on "Cold Idle Chuggle" (ever what the heck a chuggle is). Repair consisted of replacing the eprom in the computer. We replaced three, two ran fine, the third one it made no difference. Finally installed an aftermarket prom and cured the problem.

                  Thanks Dick. I'll make a note of it. I've heard the term before, but in context with what I can't recall. Still looking for that article - went through many recent mags today with no luck.

                    Stuart, I had a 84' CFI, one area to watch for is the gasket between the top half and bottom half of the intake manifold, the gasket is prone to failure where the hot EGR gases pass into the manifold creating a sizeable vacuum leak. RM.

                      Richard;

                      Your report confirms my concerns for the system that I inspected, i.e. a design concern. My attention now is drawn to my son's 93 which don't want to start even with lots of battery cranking power. He said it doesn't seem to be getting fuel. Oh Boy!
