Tom, would you happen to have an original front or rear HD drum fan for an early car?

No, unfortunately I do not have the fans.
Once upon a time, someone repoed them, but I don't remember who it was, or if they are still available.

I don't know if anyone really cares but here's how we know the entire differential assembly was painted in one operation, completely assembled with brakes, drums, axles, backing plates etc.

In the group of pictures that Rob posted earlier on the 61 that was disassembled, the picture of the rear brake assembly with the drum removed, we can see that there are eight holes in the drum. Five for wheel studs plus three others.
If you look at the axle flange, you can clearly see black paint on the flange where the three additional holes in the drum are located.

So, obviously, the drum was in place when the entire assembly was painted. That means that everything else had to be in place too, including the differential.

So the inside of the brake drum was not painted and the brake shoe side of the backing plate wasn't either.

I know the pinion flange would have been cupped (masked) before the entire assembly was painted.

I suppose if the parking brake cables were attached at that time, and I think they probably were, the backing plate end of the cable probably had black paint on it too.

The center of the axle hub that would be visible with the wheel in place should also be coated in chassis black along with the wheel studs.

Pretty much the same process for the front wheel spindle/hub/brake assembly too.

Maybe not pretty and detailed like a weekend shopping center car show car but that's the way it would have been when new.

And pretty much the same complete blackout process for 63-64 rear suspension/drive, even though a few folks won't admit it.
