Would anyone have photos or illustrations which detail the intake manifold configuration (all component locations and connections) for a '66 327/300 HP with powerglide transmission? Specifically I'm looking for details which depict the proper installation of choke linkage, accelerator spring, kick down linkage spring, modulator line, crankcase vent tube, PCV hose, vacuum advance line, etc. The car has a incorrect Holley carb with electric choke, aftermarket air cleaner etc., with most original intake components missing or modified. I would like to at least make the installation look correct but not necessarily numbers / dates matching. Also, is the modulator tube one piece for the 300 HP car, and does anyone sell reproduction tubes? Do I need a specific model Holley for this application or might there be a number of models that would substitute? (I expect proper vacuum connections may be the main issue here). Any information is very much appreciated! Thanks everyone for your continued help.

Photos below show the items/connections you're after; the modulator tube on a '66 is two pieces, as shown in the M35 section of your Assembly Manual - LICS has them, and any of the other Powerglide-related stuff you need. You should have a Holley LIST 3367 carburetor (used on both manual and Powerglide units), and it's not involved in the Powerglide vacuum connections. The Assembly Manual is your friend here. Center pic is a '67, but the Powerglide parts are the same in '66-'67.

Re: 66 intake config for powerglide
John, Thanks very much for the fast response and excellent photos. For some reason I got the impression that only the 427 with automatic had a two piece modulator tube (thought it was the assembly manual, I'll need to check again). The tube has some interesting bends according to the picture! It appears one end of the kick down spring is attach to the distributor shield bracket, is that correct? Also, does the PCV line and distributor vacuum advance line connect to the base of the passenger side of the carb? Overall, looks pretty straight forward. Thank you again.- Top

Yes, and yes. Both engines use the same long modulator vacuum tube at the transmission end, but the top end has two short tubes - one for 327, one for 427.- Top

Re: 66 intake config for powerglide
This discussion brings up a question about the transmission TV (throttle valve) linkage on 66 with Powerglide. For early 66 production, the linkage rod that was used for 65 was also used for early/mid 66.
The 65 design throttle rod attached to the carburetor with a fixed ball/socket. This carried over to 66.
For later 66, a new design was used that had a slot at the carburetor end of the rod. The new design also used a separate pullback spring.
I know it was part of a safety issue that may have been a campaign/recall repair in mid 1966.
When did this design change?- Top

That sheet (with the new slotted throttle rod) shows "Redrawn & Redesigned" on 4-19-66, and it's the first (and only) revision of that sheet.- Top

Re: 66 intake config for powerglide
On page M35 A9, the drawing is still the 1st design and shows the rod without the long slot. I suppose only the sheet with the actual drawing of the new configuration was the only page that was changed/redrawn.
This means that all 66 cars built prior to some time around April 66 should have the 65 design TV rod assembly without the slot and spring?- Top

Re: 66 intake config for powerglide
Thanks John. I just looked at that 66 AIM page (M35 A8) and I see the change. I suppose this means the change to the new safety style linkage with the slotted rod didn't occur in production until at least April of 66 production, or possibly a bit later.

The '66 guys should know about this one, but I'd guess it could have been 30 days or so on either side of the sheet revision date.- Top

Re: 66 intake config for powerglide
I'm going to look at a pretty original December 65 built 66 with Powerglide tomorrow.- Top
