    C2 Rocker Molding Brackets

The answer to this question is probably in the achieves somewhere, but I wasn't able to find, so sorry if this is a repeat question. How many rocker molding brackets should there be on a 66 AOS car. I'm referring to the bracket that gets welded to the bird gage for non-side pipe cars. The judging manual says there are 6 screws on the underside of the rocker molding that attach it to the car and I'm not sure if that includes the screw in the front of the molding that goes into the bracket that is pop riveted to the fiberglass leaving 5 rocker molding brackets or if it doesn't include this screw which would mean there are 6 rocker molding brackets?? Thanks for your help!

See your AIM, Section 1 - sheet A4.00 (that's the 64 page, but in that area) 1964 shows 6

      Re: C2 Rocker Molding Brackets

Thanks Alan, but I've done a little more research and have found that for C2's through 65, there were 6 rocker molding brackets welded to the bird cage per side, but on 66 and 67's there were only 3 per side. I have read in the archives under "side pipe conversions" where it is mentioned about removing 4 brackets including the one pop rivet behind the front wheel opening. I have also spoken to many parts suppliers that say there were only 3 brackets welded to the bird cage per side. I sure would like someone with an original 66 without side exhaust to confirm this though!

        Re: C2 Rocker Molding Brackets

The rocker moldings I bought for this car are NOS and only came with 6 plastic nuts that inserted into the bottom of each rocker molding bracket. The screw went through the molding into this plastic nut to hold it to the car. This is another reason I think there are only 3 brackets per side, but I'm looking for confirmation of this!

As suggested a AIM will answer many questions like there being 6 rocker tabs on each side on a '66. Part suppliers aren't the definitive party to get our answers. Judging manual or AIM will be a good aid.

Are you saying that you know for sure that there were 6 rocker brackets on each side of a 66? I have looking at the Judging manual and AIM. It doesn't make sense to me that when the car was off the frame that there was evidence in the bird gage that showed only 3 brackets per side and that the OEM rocker moldings I purchased for the car only had hardware for mounting the rocker with 3 screws a side??

              66 has only three. 65 has 6

Interesting Russ. My '66 Corvette September 23rd '65 build has 6 rocker tabs. Sounds like another of those 'running changes'.

                  Bob,

There are 3 brackets per side welded to the bird cage for '66. The '66 AIM shows 3 per side and my '66 has 3 per side.

Is there a difference between coupe and conv? Mine is a March built coupe. PS I see he was asking about an AOS car. Mine is a St Louis car. Is there a difference in the number of mounting tabs between the two suppliers?

The Judging manual must not be correct because it states each molding is attached to 6 stamped sheet metal brackets that are spot welded to the door sill frame??

                          Michael,

The page (UPC 1 ASM, F4) in the '66 AIM was revised 11-11-65, but it doesn't say what the revision was for, other than saying "(3 places)". Maybe the change was from 6 to 3 brackets???

My July build date '66 is all original; 3 welded brackets per side.
