    1965 standard shocks

Hello to all; I would like to install OEM "look" rear shocks on my 65' 365hp car. I am aware that the originals are long gone. The current units are painted black and missing the upper cover portion. Any ideas where I can source correct shocks (don't mind if I have to paint them grey myself !) Thanks. David Kalaydjian

    David,

Less than 10 years ago one could purchase one type of Delco Reactec shocks, both front and rear, that looked very much like original C2 standard shocks, albeit the stamped information on the shock (Pliacel, part number, date, etc.) was incorrect. After that version of the Reactec was discontinued, there is not such thing as a 100% "correct" shock, unless you're willing to pay for rebuilt originals or something similar that someone like Dan Patch (see the Driveline) can provide. But be prepared for sticker shock if you go that route. Otherwise, you'll have to settle for something close in configuration, paint them gray, and accept a points deduct.

Can anyone point us to a "brand" of new shock that at least somewhat resembles the original configuration of these C2 shocks? I've heard it's very hard to read the inscription on the front shocks, so with correct paint and sticker, which brand might pass? Thanks.

        Michael -

Shocks from Monroe or Gabriel (which is what you'll usually find in an AC-Delco box) are as close as anything else, then paint and add stickers; deductions are minor, as so few points are allocated to shocks.
