    1972 Gas Cap.

I have a gas cap that is different then the one on my "72. On the underside it has only a "S' engraved on it. The one on the car has the Stant logo consisting of the letters "SMC" with the "C" circling the "SM" letters.

Is the cap with only the "S" considered original or is it a reproduction unit? Or is it from an earlier/later model year? All aspects of this cap is consistent with "SMC" cap except the Logo on the underside.

Jerome, the cap with the SMC logo is correct for your car, the (S) is a later version of the cap. not really sure of the date.

Ed is correct the one with just the "S" is a later service cap most likly late 80's or early 90"s to present. The "S" stands for Stant the earlier version with "SMC" stands for Stant Manufacturing Corp (I think I got that right).
