    Dan,

That's what I thought. I am waiting for the score sheets to check it out. I didn't think that you deducted any points on my glove box lockset. I appreciate you sharing the PV procedure and how and why mine would fail. Thank you for speaking with me and passing on your knowledge.

just looked over mine, lost 6 points in ops to glove box tumbler, and to spare tire lock spare tire lock worked, but the ignition key fit into lock (did not turn) but because it fit in I lost points... I know only 6 points but saw quite a few deducts like that. (i.e. battery tar top was too hard.. Waite it is a tar top battery NOT a poly top). 7 points.... there must be 5 like that ... oh well I will get the keys/tumblers fixed before nationals. PV in FL in January...

This is absolutely the right approach in my opinion. The goal of judging is to help the owner achieve the award they want. If they are at Regionals, it is very possible they want to move on to a Mark of Excellence award, at which point you need to do a PV. Advising people ahead of time on what they might expect in PV is very helpful. It would have taken me more times to pass PV had I not had all that help.

          Mike,

I dropped the sheets in the mail last week. You should have them any day now.

Agree fully Chris the detail while on the borderline of PV during the Ops check was great info. it keeps me from ending my PV run early due to a simple think like a key... would have made the trip to Fl regional next year a lot of driving for nothing. It was a great experience to witness soo many PV at the MN regional. The experience and conversation with owners and judges beat the PV manual hands down. I now feel that with some work over the summer I have a chance to PV now..

Ron, I'm happy to help too. Let me know what questions you have. Passed PV on my '67 in Dallas in 2011. You've got my email.

                Ron,

The tar was too hard?!?!?! What... was the finger nail impression not deap enough???

I just ordered a "real" tar top battery yesterday for my '64 that will be flight judged in KC. I was under the impression that a real tar top it would take a 0 point deduct?

                See you in KC.

                  Ron/James,
I am scrounging for every point and correcting all of the deductions from the previous owner's score sheets. I just installed a repro tar top to avoid that deduction and I really hope I don't have issues with it. That cost vs. deduction ratio was hard to justify but I bought it anyway. Ron, if you have more info on why that was a deduction (too hard?), please let us know. I will soften it with a hair dryer prior to judging if I have to.....

                    James,

A "real" tar top battery, meaning one made in the 1960's should get no originality deduct, but it's my understanding, based on past DB threads, that a repro "real" tar top still has some detectable differences (like incorrect mold parting lines or too hard "tar") and will garner a deduct.

Just like repro tinted windshields, I don't believe there is any repro battery that will not get some points deduct, especially when critiqued by Master level judges at Regional or the National level.
