    Can anyone share some pictures of original 1957 engine stampings and distributor and generator tags?

              first five are gangstamped . the one i would question would have been the L. that would be a one-in-a-thousand strike to get the L perfectly in line with the gangstamp.

                I'm going to tag onto this thread if that's ok. Yesterday I looked at a 57 FI that had a code stamped "F610P". Does anyone know what this block came out of?

                  According to my Lime Book there is no "P" suffix on small block engines but lots of P with another letter.

                      The second suffix character on a '57 pad is almost always misaligned with the first five, as the second suffix character was stamped separately by hand with a loose die (not included in the gang holder).

                        Please pay special attention to the V on the generator tag. The replacement items have a very narrow opening at the top.

                          I have two original 1957 engines, (EH, EG). In both instances the last character of the suffix is not in alignment with the rest of the stamping due to the use of a gang holder with a 5 character capacity.

                          The current 56-57 judging manual addresses this issue. It also includes photo's.
