    1964 tires

In the process of carefully going through my newly acquired '64 roadster, and the TIM&JG. I notice the '64 should have rayon whitewalls or nylon black walls, but Kelsey only makes the proper Goodyear whitewalls in polyester and has no Firestone or BFG nylon black walls. So I guess there is no choice to get a smaller deduction for just the DOT stamp?

If I read you post properly, yes. You get a three point deduction if all 5 tires are DOT, but you get a 2 point deduction if you have a real original spare.

Right, but I think the deduction is much larger (20% I think) than just DOT (which is 10%) for the Kelsey Goodyear that is made of polyester instead of the proper rayon, even if the WW is the correct 1".

6.70-15 rayon blackwalls were standard. Same size rayon whitewalls or nylon blackwalls were optional at extra cost.

Coker Tire makes the original BFG and Firestone tires with the DOT stamp. For some reason the Firestone tire is too large to fit the spare tire tub but the BFG will fit in the tub. You will get the standard deduct for the DOT stamp but it is the best you can do with a new tire.

I believe the Coker's deviate from typical factory production more than the Kelsey tires, at least the last car we restored, the Kelsey's received less deduction than anything else on the field. In fact the first set we used, we worked and removed the DOT markings and received 100% for the tires

Yes, Kelsey and Coker have the correct size, bias ply, OEM ones (Goodyear and BFG, respectively) in the proper WW size (1 ") and blackwall, but they both are polyester construction, not rayon(WW) and nylon (BW), that is called for in the judging manual. IIRC, at our recent judging retreat that called for a 20% deduct, the DOT alone (as in my '67 GY nylon WWs) is only 10%. Just looking for someone who makes the proper construction as well as the rest, guess I am SOL.
