    Re: Engine Sludge

Are we talking modern synthetic oil like Mobil 1 in flat tappet engines or synthetic C rated diesel oil or are we talking about roller cam later engines???

      Re: Engine Sludge

The older engines would breath front to back and the oil vapor would bake in the valve covers because it had no way out other than clean oil.
Then they changed the breathing to valve cover to valve cover and that brought the clean air in one cover, down thru the engine and out the other cover removing almost all the vapor.

        Re: Engine Sludge

Most of us know that there were several PCV system architectures in small block during the sixties as the industry tried to find the best low cost technical solution. The valve cover to valve cover system that we first saw on the '65 396 represented a very good technical solution that well ventilated bot the lower crankcase and the rocker boxes, it was also low cost, which is why it eventually migrated to most other engine architectures in the next several years.
