    C2 Fan Clutch

Is there a way to tell from a picture if a fan clutch is correct for a 66 small block car? I know per the TIM&JG that it should measure 1.8" end of the shaft flange to the boss where the mounting studs are. I'm looking for one and there is one on ebay now that says it is for small block.

Here is one on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/corvette-fan...ea48a1&vxp=mtr

    Thanks,

    Don,

The fan clutch that is on your Ebay link is the style used starting about 1969 or so. I believe that is made by Eaton.

Enclosed is a photo of one of the types of fan clutch (made by Eaton) used in 1966 and 1967.

I may have a photo of my original Schwitzer fan clutch dated Feb. 1966 which has the bar strip on the front face.

I hate to be dense, but is there a difference in the faces between your pictures and the one on EBay?

      Thanks

Look at the difference in the raised "tabs" on the face. The one on Ebay has an "angled" tab while David's are "rectangular"

I believe David is spot on. Look for one with the small oil reservoir like his picture.

Original Eaton fan clutches are also identified/dated with ink stamp. Archives has the date codes. I can also provide if needed.

I just bought the Eaton fan clutch (as shown in the photo below) today at a swap meet in Thompson, CT. It is an Eaton style fan clutch dated "E11F" (May 11, 1966).

You need to be slightly ahead of him at swap meets.

                        Re: C2 Fan Clutch

I found another one on Ebay that is listed as a 61 fan clutch. No apparent stamping on the face. Were the fan clutches the same for late C1s and C2s?
I know there is a difference in small block and big block, i.e. measurement from the mounting flange to the base of the bolts (boss) where the blade mounts.

                        How does this one look.

                          David:

The date E11F should be May 11 1965..........not 1966 as stated.

                            Larry,

You are correct. The code "E11F" should be May 11, 1965. I guess I had a "senior moment". Thanks for the correction.

Back in the Spring of 2011 I bought a similar fan clutch ink stamped "EATON", "CJ", and "L27G" (Nov. 27, 1966) that came with a Scwitzer fan dated "L6" (Nov. 1966).

Jerry from California has a "CJ" fan clutch dated "L12G" (Nov. 12, 1966) on his 67 Corvette that he owned since 1968.

                              Don,

It does seem a bit odd that a few days after responding to your thread about C2 fan clutches I would find another one. However, it was not a great day at the swap meet for me. I traveled about 175 miles (round trip) to Connecticut and only bought 3 parts, all were $5 each. In these modern times it is very difficult to find vintage parts at rock bottom prices. The swap meet at the Thompson Speedway is primarily "race guys" selling their racing parts and fortunately most of them have very little interest in original Chevrolet parts. I have done well there over the last 20 or 25 years but the pickings are now very thin.
