Speedometer cable color for a '64

Can anyone tell me what the correct color the speedometer cable should be on a '64 PG SB (May production...). I believe my current cable is an "SR" for it is a very light beige color..... I've be told the cable should be grey..... is this correct or not.....? Garry Eastwood (38705)

Garry, I have one original 64 speedo cable, it's light beige color. The repros I've seen are grey. Not sure about service cables.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

      Garry,

I agree with Dan. My late January built '64 hase the same speedo cable that Dan described. Mine is the original one that was on the car when I bought it back in 1979.

It would not surprise me to learn that the grey evolves into what could be described as "light beige" simply through age.

1964 Speedometer and Tach cables had a plastic sheeth that was almost white but by the time we came along to worship them they have turned sorta yellow or beige as described above. Fifty years under the hood in heat and oil will turn anything sorta something!

PS. Same story with the WW pump. White turns yellow (beige) with 50 years of heat and oil.

All.....thanks for the responses..... my cable appears to be the original, as well...... it has the raised "Delco" wording around the inside edge of the large attachment nut that connects to the trans....... I just wasn't sure about the "color"...... it's in good shape (after about 55K original miles....), so it stays....Garry Eastwood (38705)
