    Part Number Help

    Quick Question...

    63 to 67 A/C Expansion Valve 5910584, does that replace 5910489 or precede 5910613?

    Thanks

I can find no record at all of GM #5910584. I can say, for sure, that it hasn't been in the GM parts system for the last 35 years. If it existed before that time, I can find no record of it being used on a Chevrolet vehicle. It is possible that it was used on some non-Chevrolet GM car line.

GM #5910489 was the original 63-67 valve. It was discontinued in October, 1968 and replaced by GM #5910613. The latter was discontinued in July, 1983 and replaced by GM #6551445 which was discontinued shortly thereafter.

It's also possible that the GM #5910584 was a non-Chevrolet valve that was discontinued and replaced by either the 5910489 or 5910613. However, IF that occurred, it occurred prior to 1973. IF that occurred, then we know that the 5910584 had forward compatibility with the 5910489 and 5910613. That does not mean, though, that the 5910489 and 5910613 have rearward compatibility with the 5910584 (i.e. the 5910489 and 5910613 could be used in replacement of the 5910584 but a 5910584 might not necessarily be able to replace a 5910489 or 5910613).

My GUESS is that the 5910584 is a valve released about 1967 for a non-Chevrolet application.

Joe, after some looking it's probably a Cadillac part.

          Thanks

Joe, I came across another one 5910766. Anything you can tell me about this one?

            Thanks

As far as Chevrolets go, the only application I can find is 1971-72 light trucks. However, the valve was also used on Cadillacs, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks.

GM #5910766 was replaced by GM #6551448. The latter valve was applicable to many Chevrolets including Chevelles, Chevy II, Camaros but not Corvettes.

Joe, thank you. I've come to the conclusion that GM had too many folks obtaining parts in the 60's, just tooooo many numbers.

                Cheers
