    63 coupe job #

Took the body off and I am trying to determine what the job # is.
On the front firewall looks like 23 or 25,can't make out the third #
On the back side where the job # was written it shows the # 2 cannot make out the 2nd # and the third # looks like a 9 but the 9 is a little tough to read.
So it appears to be 239 or 259 does anyone have an idea what it should be. My vin is 3259, 63 fuel coupe 4 sp. Thanks

Robert, You said the number appears to be 259. And your vin is 3 259. So it's a match isn't it? Nice find. JD

The Job number and VIN have no relationship.

JD, I don't believe the job no. matches the Vin normally But Its Possible since the job number range from 1 to 500. Chances would be slim. Bob if you want to go to the C2 Corvette registry you may find some cars with the Job no.s posted just find there VIN and yours and count the numbers from your car to theres. I did this with my 63 and they matched.

          Robert,
The job number and the vin number have no relation, as Harry mentioned, but my 376 are the same as well.

            John,

You are correct in a way!!!!!!! How many times does 500 go into 3259?????? Six times with 259 left over!!!!! Get it now!!!!! When they built 3001 it would have the job number of 001 etc. etc.
This probably held true for several thousand cars.
BUT didn't the job numbers go from 001 to 999 and start over again??????
This theory would work with 500 but not 999!!!!

Think about where the Job number was assigned in St. Louis and how far down the line the VIN was assigned.

There is an explanation of this numbering system in Noland Adams Stingray 63 - 67 book ( pg. 24 & 25 )

The Body Shop Job Number was assigned by a clerk in the Production & Material Control office, who "built" that 500-unit schedule based on established scheduling priorities and restrictions to maintain adequate line balance. Days later, after the body was built and worked its way through the Paint Shop and went out of sequence several times to deal with solvent pops and bond seam repairs, it wound up out of the Paint Shop, at the first station on the Hard Trim Line; that's the station where the VIN plate was created (along with the trim tag) and both were affixed to the car, which was then "locked in sequence" all the way to the end of the Final Line. There was zero relationship between the Body Shop Job Number and the VIN, except by pure coincidence.

could not find any #S in the doors or behind the radio on the fire wall. I know there is not a correlation to the vin, there r no body job #s that I can see on the corvette registry.
I guess what I was hoping for was someone with a close vin # and they know what their job # is,then I could probably make out what my #s r. Thanks

There is at least one, i.e. mine.

Seriously, the job numbers are not shown on the initial table. However, if you click on a VIN from the table, it will take you to another page which sometimes contains more information. The auxiliary page includes a space for "Factory Job Nr" which is near the bottom of the page.

Although looking thru the '63's near your VIN, unfortunately I don't see any job numbers filled out. So that is probably what you meant.
