I'd like to know what you guys find to be the best for cleaning your engine compartment.
Here's my deal... I kind of did things backwards in my restoration in that the chassis was done first, then wrapped and then the body installed and painted. I did the hood surround and blackout before the body was painted and the painter "masked" everything off. The transition from the exterior paint to the surround is negligible so I'm happy with that BUT it wasn't masked as well as it should have been and there are what looks to be hard water spots/runs where the wet sanding/polishing residue ran through the hood emblem holes.
The car has sat for a little over a year now and I'm just getting back at it. There is a fair amount of lacquer dust and general outdoor air dust on everything and I was wondering what would be the best cleaner to use to remove this. I don't really want to use water because of the natural cast iron parts so I was thinking of a waterless spray cleaner that you wipe off or maybe something like Simple Green for any tough spots. Any thoughts?
I've already had problems with trying to remove the under hood stains and I'm really stuck on what to do with those because if I can't remove them I'm looking at redoing the underhood blackout. This isn't a road I want to go down because for the most part the engine compartment is all back together....
Any advice is appreciated.
