    1958 Window Regulators

I am posting some pictures of the window regulators that were removed from my 1958 Corvette. One was a little rusty, so I cleaned and but some primer on it. The other one is galvanized. The bottom one has the number 68 stamped on the metal piece with the roller on the end. The short arm that pivots has 70 stamped on it and 65 is stamped on the longer arm that pivots. Also, as you can see, the area where the window crank goes on is recessed. My guess is the bottom one, which I believe is the drivers side, may be original. And the galvanized one may be a passenger car. I have searched the forum for pictures but have not found any. Does anyone know for sure?

I just got done "restoring" the regulators on my 58. I don't believe there were passenger car applications for these and I would venture to say that the silver one is aftermarket. Factory installed regulators were all dip painted black.

      Tom,
I respectfully disagree. I have several NOS in the package, have seen many other NOS, and have worked with about 45 of them over the past 40 years. Not one of them was painted from the factory--all were plated or natural steel.
I would agree that there was no passenger car interchange with the Corvette.
By the way, 56-58 and 59-62 are slightly different. When they relocated the opening in the door and the door panel for 59 and later, they changed the location of and the angle of the bends in the long arm inside the door. With only a slight bit of ingenuity, one can make earlier and later interchange.

        Hi Mike,

Thanks for the education. I'm always up for learning something new.

The ones I took out of the 58 were both black and looked to be the first time they were out of the car based on the how well the screws were sealed to the door. Guess they were replaced sometime over the years.

The white is overspray from the bodywork that was done about 10 years ago.
