Which date-coded parts actually get their dates checked??

Newbie-- '66 327-350 Vert S/N 1241. Just got TF @ Chapter level. Many things are date-coded on these cars. On my judging sheets, there were numbers written-in for block, heads, carb, intake & exhaust manifolds, thermostast, alternator. I see no numbers written-in for transmission, differential, or any of the (many) other parts known to be date-coded. Does this mean these parts are not assessed for date codes, or could it be that since I got no deductions for them, that the numbers were OK? I guess what I'm asking is which date coded parts are checked and which are not (and I see they did deduct for radiator hose clamps without a date code)?

    Much obliged

All visible codes are judged, Stephen, including those that are missing, such as the hose clamps. You probably lucked out on the items mentioned because the meet was on an asphalt parking lot, and the judges couldn't (or wouldn't) get under the car.

Stephen, welcome to the NCRS. This is the best car organization out there. A ton of guys will chime in on this post, but the trans and rear date stamping aren't judged. We can't get under the cars far enough.... However, almost all other items that could be dated are checked. The engine section is a particular item/section that more detailed info is annotated on the judging sheets as you mentioned...casting date of motor, casting number of block, pad, etc....If you got a "slash", meaning no deduct for you voltage regulator for example, that means that the date was acceptable for judging or the judge simply missed it. Why not have a local NCRS guy/gal in your area that has some experience come over and go over your car with you....I have done it before with friends and we both get a lot out of the task. I usually print a blank set of judging sheets, some beer and pizza and have at it. You will usually retain more info when it's in a relaxed atmosphere like a Sunday morning inspection with a friend as opposed to being given advice when your car is getting judged as it's very nerve-racking.....Welcome aboard...and enjoy it.....you will have a ball and meet some of the nicest people out there.....ARA
