    '64 Warranty Envelope?

I was looking through the stack of things that came from the PO of my '64 and found this:

It appears to be an envelope that the warranty book goes into. Is this something that a '64 Corvette would have in the glove box? I find no mention of it in the TIM&JG for a '64. Thanks for any info.

    Michael,

Yes, that is the envelope for the warranty book for 1964. Also, Chev, Chevy II and other GM cars and trucks.

Thanks Joe, guess I will put the warranty book in it and put it in the glove box with the rest of the stuff then.

That piece wasn't placed in the car in St. Louis. It is a Chevrolet item that was an optional purchase by dealers and was inserted by them at time of delivery. That particular envelope was used in what ever years had a 24 month/24,000 mile warranty. There are similiar envelopes with different wording on them.

I agree. I don't think the folder was originally provided by St Louis, or GM at all. I have scans of several dealer generated folders very similar to the one in Michael's picture. All have slightly different wording.

Here's another from Z-Frank Chev in Chicago. You can see where it was stapled to the cover page of the warranty/protection plan booklet.

Thanks for that info guys. I guess the TIM&JG then just specifies only what the factory put into the glove box. The dealer must have added other items at delivery, like an additional envelope for the warranty book, which was added at the factory? I also found a 24 24 "Facts of the Matter" brochure about the warranty. Interesting that dealers had to provide these extras beyond what the factory did.

Note that there is no GM part number on any of those dealer-supplied "explanations" of the warranty, which they supplied to minimize arguments between the customer and the write-up guy over what was covered and what wasn't. In '64, St. Louis installed P/N 3834959 envelope, as noted in the Assembly Manual, UPC 14, sheet A3.00, third item down in the Miscellaneous Shipping List.
