    1958 engine Identification

Recently purchased a 283 engine to put into my 1958 Vette. It is correct cast number and date but the stamp pad number is the big question. The stamp pad number is FI204M. I cannot identify what the M engine application is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

      The "F1204M" stamping on a 1958 block is decoded as Flint, Dec. 4, 1957, 1958 Chev. truck 160 H.P. w/ M.T. models 31-32-36-3800-4000.

Thanks for the info. The guy who sold it to me said it came out of his Vette even though it wasn't the correct motor. Might take some massaging to motivate my Vette.
