The Judging Manual (page 29) goes to great length to describe the date code but does not mention the color of the jack or the handle for a 1970. There are at least 50 shades of black (sound familiar?) and I'd appreciate some guidance on correct color i.e. flat, satin, semi-gloss, etc. Thanks...Clark

Yes, you're correct; there were a lot of different degrees of sheen seen in the various blacks used on various Corvette components. It's pretty hard to describe in words each one of these degrees of sheen (even harder actually obtaining paint of each sheen). However, I would call the jack and jack handles to be what could be described as "on the glossy side of semi-gloss".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C-3 Jack Color
You asked; so I will give you the opportunity to have more fun.
Original early (1968-1972) C3 jacks will exhibit several different shades of black if one examines them closely. I believe they were painted when only partly assembled, and may even have been assembled from painted components supplied by different suppliers.
There, now go have fun.Terry- Top
