    1960 Power Window problem

I have a 1960 power window two top car. I have removed and replaced the door windows to repair and replace parts. I have installed new (CC) window stops. When I roll the window up with the door open it will bypass the rear window stop. If I adjust the stops close to the window they will stop the window but the rear stop will hit the window frame when I roll the window down. If I adjust the stops to clear the window frame the window will hit the rear stop and then push the inner door panel out and bypass the stop. What is the solution?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Do your stops have the correct rubber on them and they are positioned (angled) correctly.

      Steve,

I have a 57 power window car, and if you go back about 1 week you will see a thread about window glass in general. This thread does not cover the stops, but I can tell you my experience with them.

Don't know if you car has them or not, but there is a stop reinforcement that strengthens the inter door glass so it will not give with the window up. It is available from Corvette Central, p/n 281017. I have not seen this part installed on any C1 I have looked at, but it is in the 56/57 AIM.

Without this reinforcement the fiberglass can tear around the stop plate. I think it is probably worse with power window cars as the motor torque is non-forgiving. Suggest you invest in this, as it will prevent fiberglass damage if nothing else, and may fix your problem.

I would be interested in knowing how easily you were able to make the fuzzies clear the front post.

        Mark,

Yes I installed the stops with the rubber cover. It actually made the problem worse because they are so soft they allow the flange on the bottom window channel to push right passed them. With the rubbers removed I can get the window to stop if I push the stop up close to the glass. They are positioned in the correct location.

        Dan,

Yes the reinforcements are in place and appear to be original to the door. Now the fuzzies, that's another whole story. I expanded the tubing enough to allow it to slide over the window run tube and ground a taper on the inner (window) side so it would not scratch the window frame. Slow tedious work but everything seems to be working as planned except the window stop.
