    54 grommet question

I have two grommets in my kit measuring 1 3/4" wide, 3/8" thick with a 3/4" inch hole. The side is slightly concaved. Any idea what these two are earmarked for?? They are a spongy material. To big for choke cables. Thanks again

Sounds like they may be for the throttle 'Z' arm where it goes through the firewall. This would be for V8s, not sure hat the 6 looks like.

Hey Guy - you probably figured this out already .... i am just starting to look at the grommet holes on my 54 .... did you find that these two donuts were for the heater core outlets that poke through the firewall???

No, I think they go to 55. There are no grommets for the heater core lines. Note to self........Install the wiper motor and have it hooked up the the switch cable before setting the body drop. So much easier.

              Guy
There are "insulators" or seals that go on the heater core - and seal against the firewall when the heater case is installed.

Thank you, schooled once again. Mine didnt have any back when I removed it so I wasnt looking for it. The Grommet kit doent say which goes where and I didnt read anything anywhere to tell me. Just one more piece to the puzzle. Im still short the grommet to the main harness so I have to find that one as my kit seemed short.

                    Re: 54 grommet question

There was not a grommet for the main harness (that I have seen)
Typically it was a rough cut hole and then back filled with dum dum....
I have not seen one with a grommet -
                    Others may chime in

Well thats really good to know, Ive been pulling my hair out looking at original cars trying to figure this out. I suppose I could use dum dum at my heater core sisce its already installed. I dont want to take it out now for the grommet. We can wright a book on all these missing pieces. Someone go for it. Thanks Chris!

when you get the heater hoses on - hard to tell if the seal is in there.....
