You may want to look inside the distributor where the tach gear rides for wear and install the brass button. This will keep the main shaft and tach gear from being damaged over the long run.

Where do you get the brass buttons?

I think most of the parts houses have them or you could just make one and install it. Just make sure it's installed flush with the back housing because the thrust washer that goes on the tach gear moves the gear in and if the brass is not flush the gear will not turn freely.

The thrust washer really only protects the screw in bushing but the thrust is inward so it's really not needed except for originality sake. Get a drill bit the size of the hole in the screw in bushing and through the bushing you can locate (drill) a drill start exactly where the hole goes. This is especially important if the back of the housing has already been damaged by the tach gear.
