Was told that a 1958 five star bowtie car could not be restored and judged for flight by the same owner, could this be true? Thanks in advance.

Re: C-1 Judging
Here is what the BOWTIE Award states:
NCRS - CHEVROLET BOWTIE Award
This award was created by the National Corvette Restorers Society in 1992. The Bowtie award recognizes the un-restored Corvette and encourages the owner to retain and display the car in its present condition for the enjoyment and continuing educational benefit of our membership. The award is earned only at a National Convention by un-restored cars successfully judged and voted to be historically and educationally significant in four areas (Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis). This award is available to any model year currently judged by NCRS which was manufactured 20 or more years ago. Regardless of change in ownership or judging result the car may never be presented for judging again. The judged section requires an 80 to 85% pass with the following standard "Does the item, part, fabric, plating or coating appear to actually be that which was specifically installed or applied on this car at the time of manufacture". If this is successfully passed the vote with the following standard "Does the area judged display significant educational and historical value which should be preserved in its present condition" is taken. Passing both sections in all four areas earns the NCRS - Chevrolet Bowtie award. Only 271 Corvettes have received this prestigious award.Rick Aleshire

Re: C-1 Judging
The correct wording should be that the car may never be presented for Bowtie judging again. It can be presented for Flight judging, and an attempt can be made at a Duntov if the appropriate Team Leader approves. However, I couldn't understand why anyone would restore a 5 Star Bowtie car when there are other better restoration candidates around.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: C-1 Judging
Patrick,
So, if restoration does take place, what happens with the BOWTIE award then, since the car NO LONGER meets that criteria? Is the award REMOVED from the NCRS database?Rick Aleshire

Re: C-1 Judging
From the JRM:
13. MARK-OF-EXCELLENCE and BOWTIE AWARD ACHIEVEMENT
An owner wishing an attempt at achieving both an NCRS Mark-of-Excellence Award and NCRS Chevrolet Bowtie Awards with the same car may do so ONLY in accordance with one of the following:
A. At separate National Conventions: Mark-of-Excellence Award first, Bowtie Award second.
B. If Bowtie Award is achieved first, Mark-of-Excellence Judging at a subsequent National Conventions will require appropriate Divisional National Team Leader invitation.
C. At the same Convention: Both Duntov/McLellan and Bowtie Judging will be conducted separately during the same event.
D. Surrender of the NCRS Chevrolet Bowtie Award and simultaneous judging of both Bowtie and Mark-of-Excellence- Top
