aggressive power brake on a 64

my 64 has very aggresive power brakes. just purchased the car and cant put a handle on
what is causing it... the booster seems fairly new and getting good vacuum from the engine.
any ideas??? thanks wally yes it does carry its original drum brakes. when i say aggresive
any pedal foot pressure applying them will stop you on a dime.

Not all bad, but have you checked all the components for proper sizing, Master cyl front and rear wheel cyl? I'd start there.

        Wally,
May I suggest that the drum to shoe drag/clearance is set too tight. This most noticeable on the front brakes. The shoes shouldn't drag but be real close to drums. Another place to check is the pin between the booster and the master cylinder is too long. A small amount too long even 1/16" to 1/8" will cause the problem you describe. Make sure you have free pedal about 1/8" minimum.

Wally, All good responses, another problem to look for would be a brake drum or drums that may be out of round on the front. I also like the brake shoes just to touch the drums on all 4 wheels and then back off the turn star wheel a half a turn .

My 1972 had this problem and it was as Gene suggests, the rod was about 1/8 too long and slightly compressing the master cylinder, adjusted it and problem gone.
