    glove box light shield

'^^ L79 Vert #1241-- I broke my bulb trying to get the (was missing) light shield on it-- I had to pry the flange open on the shield to get it to fit over the bulb, but, in trying to clamp the flange tighter to the bulb base, the bulb broke. Once I get a new bulb, is there any technique (other than being more carefull) to getting the shield on?? The bulb has a point on its base that fits into a channel on the shield flange. How tight does the flange neeed to be around the bulb base for the assembled bulb& shield to fit into the recepticle and still make contact with the bulb socket??

Steve I think the easy was is to install the bulb into shield, then into socket. just note that the shield opening should be facing down when bulbs installed.

Let me clarify-- I did install the bulb into the shield first. I had to pry the flange open on the bottom of the shield to get the bulb to fit through, then, when I tried to crimp the flange tighter to the bulb (to get it to fit into the socket-- otherwise, it wouldn't clear it)-- the bulb broke. Any suggestions??

      Thanks

        Stephen,

Simply slide the shield over the glass end of the bulb after it has been installed in the socket. There is no reason for the shield to be that tight on the bulb. It's just a friction fit to keep it on the bulb. Rotate the shield so that the light does not shine into the drivers eyes when the glove box is open.

Thanks, Joe, but-- the repro I got wouldn't fit over the bulb without prying open the flange. Then it had to be crimped back together to fit into the collar of the socket-- did I just get a poor-quality repro??

          Thanks

            stephen,

Most repos are poor quality as they are made in China, Viet Nam (yes I am a Vet) or other cheap labor countries. Before you install the bulb play with different settings so the shield just slides over the glass with just enough friction to keep it on the bulb.
