I am doing a frame off restoration on a 1969 convertible and have a questions. When I mount the body on my body stand do I need to install the aluminum bushing and shims on the stand? Or, can I just mount the body on the body stand ? The body stand is constructed of 1 inch square tubing for uprights with 3/16 inch plates 1 1/2 inches by 3 inches welded to each upright with 1/2 inch holes for the bolts. Thanks for any information. Re: 1969 Frame Off Body Mounting on Stand
Its not really necessary just to support the body, but if you do body repairs that are structural or involve panel or door fit, the body needs to be mounted like it will eventually be on the car. Not necessarily with the correct shims at each location, but the shim mounts filled in to not put stress on the body. When you put it back on the frame, you will need to tweak up the shimming to get gaps etc. correct.- Top
